What is IFS (Internal Family Systems) Therapy?

Have you ever felt like you are torn between two opposing parts of yourself? Perhaps a part of you wants to make one decision while another wants the total opposite. Perhaps a part of you feels frequently terrified or anxious even when another part of you knows rationally that there is nothing to worry about.

These are experiences we all are familiar with as human beings, but they can feel absolutely debilitating at times. IFS therapy offers a way to compassionately get to know these different “parts” of ourselves that seem to have different stakes and points of view on a matter, and by doing so we start to understand what is driving our decisions, behaviour and internal conflicts.

When we listen to each part of us with curiosity and compassion, we experience a settling of our internal system and can begin to make informed decisions about our path forward rather than acting out of reactivity and fear. IFS therapy is about helping you to build a relationship with your own internal world and integrating your life experiences. It is was careful and safe way of settling and healing the root of a wide range of concerns and difficulties, such as:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Relationship issues / anxiety

  • Life transitions

  • Feeling numb/ dissociated

  • Grief and Loss

  • Trauma Reactivity

  • Attachment injuries and trauma
