Signs you are struggling with your mental health after Injury:

  • Feeling consistently anxious or worrying a lot

  • Having trouble concentrating

  • Not being able to stop thinking about your injury

  • Worrying about the future

  • Feeling hopeless

  • Crying a lot

  • Scary thoughts and flashbacks

  • Feeling very angry

  • Using a lot of substances

  • Having nightmares or trouble sleeping

  • Feeling numb or not feeling anything

  • Lacking motivation to get better

 Sometimes, if we are not used to paying attention to our mental health, it can be hard to spot the ques that we are struggling. Sometimes we also don't know what constitutes a reason to reach out for help. We might feel like we are struggling, but not "enough" to actually seek help and be taken seriously.

Everyone deserves support with their mental health. You do have to wait for it to get really bad, you do not have to suck it up and just on with it. Therapy and mental health support is for everyone.

After injury it is natural to experience a change in your mental health just as much as your physical. Just as you deserve support getting physically healthy, you deserve support feeling mentally like yourself again.
